THE
BANQUETING HOUSE, WHITEHALL |
|
|
Designed by Inigo Jones, and built
in 1622 for King James I to hold receptions, dinners and concerts.
In 1635 King Charles I received nine ceiling canvasses, commissioned
from Peter Paul Rubens. In 1649 the King was publically beheaded outside
the Banqueting House. However, happier events occur there today.
The Banqueting House will accommodate 375 for a gala dinner, up to
400 for a presentation or concert and up to 550 for a cocktail reception.
The atmospheric undercroft will comfortably accommodate 375 for pre
dinner drinks and 150 for dinner.
The Banqueting House is very central and is much in demand as a venue
by both public bodies and the corporate sector.
